Advice to presenters - Individual papers, Symposium and Posters

The Programme indicates the session, room and time for your presentation. It is found on this website under Programme>>. There will also be a Programme update on the Congress Notice Boards at Pedagogen, house A and B.

The sessions will be held in English, Spanish or French, chosen by the presenter and indicated in the Programme. A few sessions will be translated, which also will be indicated in the programme.

Prepare a handout

All presenters are required to provide a written text, summary or other documentation of their presentation at the conference. Presenters should give one copy of their written summary to the Chair person of their session.

In addition, to assist the audience, all presenters should prepare handouts and overhead transparencies or a PowerPoint presentation, which covers the main points of the presentation.

Please bear in mind that you will be speaking to an international audience, where only a few have your language as their mother tongue. The majority may not be familiar with the context and education system in your own country. Therefore we ask of you to avoid the use of acronyms and do not use expressions that describe aspects of your education system without explanation.

The vast majority of the delegates have indicated English as their preferred language, Therefore, preferably prepare your summary and handouts in English and speak slowly.

Audio Visual

All conference rooms will be equipped with both a video beamer and an overhead projector. Computers will be provided in all rooms. So please bring your PowerPoint presentation on a USB memory stick. If you are presenting film or audio material, please inform the OMEP Secretariat already when you register.

The lecture rooms are equipped with an internet connected desktop pc with Windows XP, Office 2003, which read pc-formatted USB sticks.
The projectors have 4:3 format and are optimized for 1024*768 resolution.

If you prefer to use your own laptop, please bring this up when you register, so someone can help you to check that it is compatible to the systems at the University of Gothenburg.

You must bring a converter for Swedish power socket 240 V. To connect your computer to the projector it must have a VGA port, either on board or via an adapter. If your laptop does not have a VGA port you must bring an adaptor. Most Macintosh computers need an adapter. The laptop must be configured for DHCP to be able to connect to the internet.

Individual paper session: 90 minutes

There will be three Individual papers in each session with similar themes.

Each presentation will have 15 - 20 minutes – followed by a short discussion.

There is a host in each room who is familiar with the University and the technical equipment.

Each presenter is asked to go to their allocated room 20 minutes before the session starts to check on the equipment and the order of presentations.

If you want to check the equipment on arrival, please bring this up when you register.

There will be an appointed chair person in each session, who will keep an eye on the watch, making sure each presenter gets 15-20 minutes for the presentation.

Groups of researchers have organized a symposium including 2-4 papers around a common theme.

There is a host in each room who is familiar with the University and the technical equipment.

Posters presentations

Selected posters will be displayed at Pedagogen during the whole Congress. The posters will be displayed in the poster area situated in Pedagogen all day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Poster presentations are intended for a single presentation by one person or a small group. You are kindly asked to bring your poster fully assembled and printed. There will be no possibility to print out on any larger formats at the conference.

Prepare a handout

You are asked to bring handouts, which could be a mini version of your poster. Please include name, address and e-mail address and why not a photo of yourself.  This will make further communication with you easier for interested visitor.

Format

The poster size is 110 x 75 cm or smaller. Please choose portrait format and keep in mind that font sizes should be big enough to allow your poster to be read from some distance. We suggest using a font size of 36 pt for texts, around 60 pt for sub-headings and minimum 80 pt for the heading. (In a Fact box, you can use font 24 pt).

Please, try to make a good balance on your poster between

  •        headings
  •        photos and pictures
  •        graphs and
  •        text sections.

To make your poster easy to read, we recommend that you use dots (as shown above), bold text and highlighted text.

Delivery

of your poster will be possible Tuesday  1.00 pm – 7.00 pm or during the conference.

Posters will be scheduled separately.

The posters will be shown during two days in the main central hall and will be accessible at any time. The authors will be asked to be present next to their poster, on Wednesday 4.30 pm and Thursday 5.00 pm for about 45 minutes, in order to present their work and to answer questions. All authors of a poster are kindly asked to bring an electronic copy of their work.
